Export
Readiness Checker
Introduction
It is extremely important that companies enter the export arena only when they are truly ready to due so. In ExportHelp we constantly emphasise the fact that exporting is difficult, costly and time consuming. If you are not ready to export, then trying to break into exports is likely to be the quickest way of destroying your company. Unfortunately, too often companies see exports as the salvation to difficult times at home; there is nothing further from the truth. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you ascertain your 'export readiness'. There are many 'export readiness' checkers available online. ExportHelp has incorporated a good export readiness checker as part of its content. You can access this export readiness checker here - try this one first.
If, however, you want to try alternative export readiness checkers out, we suggest that you consider the following websites:
The Department of Trade and Industry
The DTI's Export Readiness Questionnaireprovides a nine question yes/no questionnaire which
you can submit to determine whether your business is ready
to start exporting. The results of the questionnaire are instant.
US Foreign Agricultural - FAS

Service of the Department of Agriculture in the US. It is
a short survey of 9 questions and is generic in nature.

PA SourceNet
This is a service offered by the Pennsylvania Foundation.

with some useful feedback.
Centres for International Trade Development (CITD)
CITD offers an
export readiness assessment tool. Like the others, it provides
commentary on your answers. The exporter will need to register
for this service, but it is free. The survey has 23 questions
and you need to step through each question one at a time.
There is an explanation of the purpose behind each question.
It is a bit more complicated to use than the others, but
also more comprehensive.
ExportSource
This Canadian export readiness diagnostic tool is very comprehensive
and requires you to work through each question step by step.
It is written from a Canadian point of view, but remains
a useful tool. Registration is necessary, but it is free.
Export Development Canada (EDC)
EDC on its website entitled "Exportable? Are you ready to export?", provides a questionnaire designed as a starting point in considering your companies export ability.
