Risks of war, strikes, riots and civil commotion
Introduction
Loss or damage arising from these risks is excluded from basic marine insurance cover, but can be added by the insertion of additional clauses and the payment of an additional premium.
The detail of these additional clauses is as follows:
- War, revolution, rebellion, insurrection or civil strife arising therefrom, or any hostile act by or against a belligerent power;
- Capture, seizure, arrest, restraint or detainment (piracy excluded);
- Losses arising from derelict mines, torpedoes, bombs or other derelict weapons of war;
- Losses or damage arising from strikes, lock outs, labour disturbances, riots or other civil commotions;
- Damage and losses caused by any terrorist or person acting from a political motive.
The first three risks described above are regarded as war risks and it is importer to note that cover provided against these risks will only attach to the goods while they are being transported by sea or air. War risks, which arise or exist during land transportation, remain excluded. The insurance cover in respect of the last two types of risk mentioned above will attach to the goods throughout the entire duration of the transit.
